The DJIA peaked out on July 3rd, closing above the psychologically important 17000 mark for the first time in history, and is now reversing course closing below 17K today:
Although I was a little early in calling the peak of Western Civilization in June, it is now starting to appear that the final top is in place. Immediately with this reversal at Dow 17000 there is news of war erupting between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Last week, three kidnapped Israeli teens were found dead and Hamas started hitting southern Israel with rockets. Consequently, earlier today Israel initiated a major military campaign against Gaza, dubbed "Operation Protective Edge", and Hamas has responded with an ongoing, expanded missile barrage against southern Israel that has included strikes on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has called up 40,000 reservists for a possible ground incursion into Gaza in the face of the growing missile onslaught by Hamas.
As has been highlighted in this blog many, many times, reversals from psychologically important thousand marks in key stock indices like the DJIA are often followed by major geopolitical shocks.
Here's three notable historical examples I often cite. Between 1966 and 1982, the DJIA went up to the psychologically important "Magic 1000" barrier and reversed course multiple times. Each major reversal off Dow 1000 involved significant bear markets with the stock market falling 20%+ five times. Each of these bear markets involved all kinds of negative historical events and trends from the Vietnam War to oil shocks to Watergate. This included the major reversal in the autumn of 1973 associated with that year's Yom Kippur Arab-Israeli War and the subsequent OPEC oil embargo which drove the DJIA down by 40%+ in a year's time and precipitated the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression up to that point.
Likewise, in the summer of 1990 the DJIA reversed from the psychologically important 3000 mark (reaching a closing all-time high that year of 2999.75 on July 16th and July 17th) and fell by 25% by October of that year. This trend reversal took the form of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, a significant oil-shock and the 1990 Gulf Crisis which pushed the economy into a recession.
A final profound example occurred in the autumn of 2001 when, just after the DJIA reversed below the psychologically important 10000 mark on September 6th of that year, Wall Street broke hard with the 9/11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center towers and Pentagon:
As for the current juncture, not only is the DJIA reversing from the 17000 milestone, the Dow Jones Composite, NYSE index and German DAX are turning down from the 6000, 11000 and 10000 marks, respectively:
Furthermore, this reversal likely comes in the wake of a historically important Grand Supercycle peak according to the Elliott Wave Principle. What I believe constitutes the peak of Western Civilization:
In the wake of this peak, we should expect the collapse of Western Civilization. In fact, the wave patterns that have unfolded indicate that what's most likely to occur is a rapid crash more so than an extended collapse.
What form could this crash take?
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the current conflict between Israel and Hamas is leading up to what I foresaw 20+ years ago in my apocalyptic vision: chemical SCUD missiles slamming into Israel followed by a global nuclear war.
IRAQ SAYS 'TERRORISTS' SEIZE CHEMICAL WEAPONS SITE

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Iraq has informed the United Nations that the Islamic State extremist group has taken control of a vast former chemical weapons facility northwest of Baghdad where 2,500 chemical rockets filled with the deadly nerve agent sarin or their remnants were stored along with other chemical warfare agents.
Iraq's U.N. Ambassador Mohamed Ali Alhakim said in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon circulated Tuesday that "terrorist" groups entered the Muthanna site June 11 and seized weapons and equipment from the protection force guarding the facility.
He singled out the capture of bunkers 13 and 41 in the sprawling complex, which according to a 2004 U.N. report also contained the toxic agent sodium cyanide, which is a precursor for the chemical warfare agent tabun, and artillery shells contaminated with mustard gas.
Israeli warplanes struck a military base near the northern Syrian city of Latakia on Thursday, an Obama administration official confirmed to CNN.
The target, according to the Obama administration official, was missiles and related equipment the Israelis felt might be transferred to Hezbollah.
The Al Arabiya network reported Thursday that Israel has carried out two strikes in Syria, in order to prevent trucks from carrying weapons to Hizbullah in Lebanon. The attacks reportedly took place near Damascus and in the Latakiya region. At least one of the attacks took place on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
The report said that the trucks were carrying SAM-8 missiles. Jerusalem refused to comment on the report.
First off, precisely in conjunction with Secretary of State Kerry's August 26th bellicose speech regarding possible Western military action against Syria, the DJIA reversed sharply below the psychologically important 15000 mark:
Typically, these panics take a financial form such as the 1929, 1987 and 2008 stock market crashes, but they also can take the form of apocalyptic scares like the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, the October 1973 Arab-Israeli War, and 9/11 and the subsequent Anthrax mailings.
My work is drawn from an award-winning 1998 article written by Chris Carolan, Autumn Panics: A Calendar Phenomenon, which points out the tendency for financial panics to climax into the 28th day of the 7th month on the annual lunar calendar:
I took Carolan's discovery a step further utilizing the lunar-based Hebrew calendar. What I found is the tendency is for mass panics to develop in between the full moon and new moon in the second half of the 7th month on the lunar calendar which is generally equivalent to the period between Tishrei 15 and Tishrei 30 on the Hebrew calendar (usually late-October on the Gregorian calendar). During this Hebrew calendar window, the following major "panics" took place:
Note that I've included in the list above the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and October 1973 Arab/Israeli Yom Kippur War since, while not reflected in major stock market crashes, these historical crises were still effectively mass panics. This was signified on both occasions by the fact that the highest DEFCON nuclear alerts ever were reached during these crises, actually peaking right into the same time frame of the 7th lunar month as when the stock market crashes in 1929 and 1987 climaxed.
In 2013, Tishrei 25-26 on the Hebrew calendar will fall on September 29-30 on the Gregorian calendar. Thus, we are now entering the period when mass panics tend to kick-off according to mass mood seasonality. If a mass panic develops, it may climax into late-September as the historical pattern suggests. The period of greatest danger, i.e., when an epic "crash" (upset of collective beliefs and expecations) could occur in the form of a surprise nuclear third world war, should be after the full moon in September going into the new moon in October between 9/19 and 10/4.

On the anniversary of Barack Obama drawing a "red line" with Bashar Assad's regime over using chemical weapons, Syria unleashes a vicious Sarin gas attack on rebels killing hundreds:
What's more, Syria made this move days after a U.N. team arrived in Damascus to investigate prior potential chemical attacks in the country, and the site of the attack on August 21st just happened to be a few miles from the hotel where the U.N. investigators were headquartered:
Mr Assad has been advancing recently, beating back the rebels and recapturing territory. Using chemical weapons might make sense when he is losing, but why launch gas attacks when he is winning anyway?
Moreover, United Nations inspectors charged with discovering the truth about chemical weapons in Syria arrived in Damascus on Sunday. Superficially, it would seem strange for the regime to gas its enemies within 72 hours of letting these experts into the country. [UK Telegraph]
The timing and location of the reported chemical weapons use - just three days after the team of U.N. chemical experts checked in to a Damascus hotel a few km (miles) to the east at the start of their mission - was surprising.
"It would be very peculiar if it was the government to do this at the exact moment the international inspectors come into the country," said Rolf Ekeus, a retired Swedish diplomat who headed a team of UN weapons inspectors in Iraq in the 1990s.
"At the least, it wouldn't be very clever."
Ekeus said the mandate of the U.N. team was limited to three sites but could be amended to investigate fresh claims - which would be simpler to verify than the other months-old cases.
"It is easier to do sampling and testing, and also to look at the victims, if there are sick people or even dead people (on the scene). It is easier to get to doctors and get to the place where the event happened." [Reuters]

An intelligence report detailing evidence of the alleged attack could be released as early as Tuesday, a U.S. official told CNN. The report will include forensic evidence and intercepted communications among Syrian military commanders, the official said.

As the Obama Administration now rushes to take military action against Bashar Assad's regime for crossing the President's "red line", an utterly predictable response, does it dawn upon anyone, save me, that this is a colossal strategic trap?
The stock market continued its downward spiral today in the wake of Tuesday's reelection of Barack Obama. The DJIA and Nasdaq Composite have now decisively broken below the psychologically important 13000 and 3000 marks, respectively. What's more, the DJIA and key S&P500 index have broken below their technically important 200-day moving averages:
The problem, as I've long been warning, is that the potential scale of an autumn panic this time around is far greater than what was experienced in 1929 and 1987. Robert Prechter, the "Elliott Wave Theorist", has for some time been warning that based upon the fractal-based Elliott Wave pattern, the stock market might be headed for a collapse of epic proportions. Indeed, the long-term chart pattern suggests we just entered what I've dubbed the "Apocalypse Wave" which could involve a 99%+ drop in stock prices:
So does this mean that major stock market crash is about to unfold? If so, why?
The DJIA just broke decisively below the psychologically important 13000 mark. As noted in my prior blogs, in years past when the DJIA has broken below key thousand mark psychological barriers major historical shocks have erupted such as the 1973 Yom Kippur Arab-Israeli War, Iraq's 1990 invasion of Kuwait and 9/11:
Similarly, is a major historical shock about to erupt at the current historical juncture? Will this shock come in the form of what I foresaw in February 1991, i.e., a third world war that begins with a chemical SCUD missile attack on Israel? Such a potential crisis certainly seems possible at the current juncture given recent news out of the Middle East of a flare-up in the Golan Heights between Syria and Israel as the insurgency in Syria seems to be spreading beyond that nation's borders:
Three Syrian mortar shells struck in and around an Israeli village on the Golan Heights Thursday, marking a significant deterioration of security conditions along the border.
One shell fell in between homes in Moshav Alonei Habashan, but did not explode. Two more hit closer to the border.
“We believe these are stray shells, fired in the midst of internal Syrian fighting,” an IDF spokeswoman said.
No one was injured in the incident, which follows other stray shootings, including Syrian bullets that struck an IDF jeep on patrol last week.
Home Front Defense Minister Avi Dichter said Israel needed “nerves of steel” to deal with the instability in Syria.
Then, of course, there's the possibility that Israel is planning to strike Iran's nuclear sites around the time of the 11/13 new moon/solar eclipse:
In my September 25th blog, I highlighted how we were entering the season most prone for major global panics to occur. In 1929 and 1987, this took the form of stock market crashes. In 1962 and 1973, this took the form of geopolitical crises that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. As examined in my thesis on Manic Depressive Man, I believe this pattern reveals an underlying "Global Bipolar Disorder" that is shaping human history. What's more, it's possible this recurrent pattern is foreshadowing a future, nearly suicidal chapter of human history that might unfold during the "Fall".
In this light, my gravest concern is that the world will eventually share my "apocalyptic vision" of a global nuclear war that will begin with a chemical SCUD missile attack on Haifa, Israel. Could this occur at the current historical juncture? I'm afraid it's distinctly possible and, disturbingly, Israel seems to think it's possible as well.
My last blog noted news that Israel had placed Patriot missiles atop Mount Carmel overlooking the city of Haifa in northern Israel apparently in response to the Hezbollah's flight of an unmanned drone into Israeli territory last Saturday. This indicates that the IDF is concerned about the possibility of enemy missile strikes on Haifa in the near future.
While this story in and of itself is alarming, the news today of Israel's plan for a massive civil defense exercise, purportedly for an earthquake, is even more troubling. According to IsraelNationalNews.com:
Israel is planning a huge emergency drill for next week amid speculation and fears that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will order a unilateral strike on Iranian uranium enrichment facilities.
The drill tests the country’s ability to cope with an earthquake, and assumes hypothetical mass casualties of 7,000 dead, 70,000 wounded and 170,000 without a home.
The drill will also include a scenario simulating a toxic chemical leak at the northern coastal port in Haifa. This is the first time a Home Front drill has dealt with a natural disaster scenario as opposed to a war scenario.
Here's what may be telltale. Why is this "drill" being conducted as a response to an earthquake instead of as a war drill? Was a natural disaster selected as the purpose of the exercise in order to provide some sort of cover? If so, why? That the earthquake scenario involves such unprecedented casualties, i.e., 7000 dead and 70000 wounded, seems a tad odd for Israel which is rarely impacted by seismic disasters. What's more, the inclusion of simulating a "toxic chemical leak" seems strange, although this would make good sense if the intent is to put emergency services in place to deal with a real world chemical missile barrage on Israel. In other words, this unprecedented Israeli 'Home Front drill' seems geared to have in place and ready-to-go the domestic emergency resources that would respond to retaliation by Iran, Hezbollah, Syria and/or Egypt in the event of an all-out Middle East war that could be triggered by an IDF strike on Iran's nuclear facilities or a like situation.
Buttressing the concern that Israel is about to go to war is news of another massive military exercise scheduled for next week. As the Jerusalem Post reported two days ago:
The US and Israel will commence the largest-ever joint air defense drill of its kind in Israel on October 21, an army source said on Tuesday.
The exercise, named Austere Challenge 12, was originally scheduled for last spring but was postponed due to regional tensions with Iran.
On October 14, large numbers of American soldiers are expected to begin arriving in Israel, where they will set up aerial defense positions on Israeli territory and on US Navy vessels off the Israeli coastline.
The three-week drill will simulate various missile defense scenarios, and is expected to end with a live-fire interception of a decoy incoming Patriot missile.
One of the objectives of the drill is to facilitate the rapid deployment of US missile defense systems to Israel and test their ability to operate in conjunction with Israeli defense systems during a conflict.
Thus, Israel is also about to have all the military equipment and personnel in place needed to deal with air defense against an enemy missile barrage.
Finally, as reported by Zerohedge, an extra U.S. aircraft carrier and amphibious warship are about to arrive in the Arabian Sea thus placing maximum American naval forces around Iran just in time for the October 15th new moon:
The news surrounding the Middle East, particularly Iran and Syria, may come and go in waves, but for the most part it is loud political grandstanding, jawboning and largely noise. Or rather, it will be noise until these two catalytic events occur: the third US Aircraft carrier (CVN-74 Stennis) and the second big deck amphibious warfare ship (LHA-5 Peleliu), both dispatched as of several weeks ago with a destination the 5th US Fleet headquartered in Bahrain, reach their target - the Arabian Sea, located by the Straits of Hormuz and right next to Iran. As the following naval update map from Stratfor shows, both are now within a week of reaching their destination: conveniently so with at least two weeks to go until the presidential election. Needless to say, once on location, the naval and airborne support for any offensive operation, especially those launched during new moon cycles, will be simply suffocating.
Are the U.S. and Israel preparing for a strike on Iran around the time of the upcoming new moon on October 15th?
As examined in my previous blog, we are currently in a seasonal period I deem to be extremely dangerous for mankind. It was during this time, going into the new moon that marks the end of the month of Tishrei on the lunar-based Hebrew calendar, that the 1929 and 1987 stock market crashes occurred as well as when the closest approaches to nuclear world war took place during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and 1973 Yom Kippur Arab-Israeli War. This seasonal pattern is a notable corroboration of my primary thesis that man as a species suffers from a "Global Bipolar Disorder" such that there are ongoing extreme swings in mass mood between social manias and collective depressions which shape human history.
Patriot Anti-Missile Battery Deployed Near Haifa on Mt. Carmel

A Patriot anti-missile battery has been installed in the north, atop Mt. Carmel near Haifa. However, according to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, deployment of a Patriot battery “is not an unusual thing.”
The system, operated by the IDF Air Defense Command, is capable of intercepting flying objects (balllistic missiles, aircraft and other threats) at ranges between 60 to 160 kilometers ( 37 to 99 miles). The Patriot system was used during the Gulf War to intercept missiles fired at Israel from Iraq.
Installation of the battery in the north came after the IDF shot down a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) that flew nearly the entire length of the country, albeit most of the way via the Mediterranean.
The small drone was shot down Saturday morning over an uninhabited area in the northern Negev Desert. Two Israeli F-16 fighter jets “escorted” the aircraft on its journey down the coast before destroying the aircraft.
It is widely assumed that the drone was transmitting photographs, and if it had continued on its easterly course from Gaza, it would have flown near, or directly over the Dimona nuclear reactor. Israeli officials have been concerned for some time that the facility could be vulnerable to an attack from Iran.
According to a report on the Beirut-based pan-Arab television station Al-Mayadeen, with links to the Hizbullah terrorist organization, Hizbullah was responsible for the drone's flagrant violation of Israeli air space. In a brief statement, the station said the drone managed “to penetrate 100 kilometers and raise tension in Israel.” However, Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah has not made an official comment on the incident.
I certainly hope and pray not, but this is the period I've long considered most likely for the world to share my apocalyptic vision. God I hope I'm deluded...

The Free Syrian Army has taken credit for the apparent attack in Damascus:
The New York Times and other prominent news organizations have been quick to point out how significant the Damascus bombing is in the unfolding crisis. From the article, "Damascus Confronts New Reality After Brazen Attack":
Something fundamental shifted in Damascus on Wednesday, a kind of before-the-bombing reality and a far different one afterward.
“Really, up until this morning you could sense that the regime still had a firm grip over the country,” said a 25-year-old resident of the old city, declining to give her name amid the unsettling events.
Stores were initially open, she said, and the traffic, albeit light, moved easily. University students were sitting for exams.
Then came the startling announcements on state television, one after another starting around noon, that a bomb had exploded in a small meeting of the country’s crucial security figures, killing three of them, including Asef Shawkat, the brother-in-law of President Bashar al-Assad.
“Everything changed after 3 p.m., and things turned in a totally different direction,” she said, echoing comments made by numerous Damascus residents reached via the Internet.
The killing on Wednesday of President Bashar al-Assad’s key security aides in a brazen bombing attack, close to Mr. Assad’s own residence, called into question the ability of a government that depends on an insular group of loyalists to function effectively as it battles a strengthening opposition.
The strike dealt a potent blow to the government, as much for where it took place as for the individuals who were targeted: the very cabinet ministers and intelligence chiefs who have coordinated the government’s iron-fisted approach to the uprising. The defense minister and the president’s brother-in-law were both killed, and others were seriously wounded.
The attack on the leadership’s inner sanctum as fighting raged in sections of the city for the fourth day suggested that the uprising had reached a decisive moment in the overall struggle for Syria. The battle for the capital, the center of Assad family power, appears to have begun. Though there was no indication he was wounded, Mr. Assad stayed out of public view — unusual but not unprecedented in a secretive country where the government has long tried to present an image of quiet control.
There's only one problem with mainstream news reports above about the Damascus bombing and likewise the response of the U.S. government to this news: it appears that no such bombing at the Syrian National Security Headquarters actually took place.
BBC News started to ascertain that something was seriously amiss right after Syrian national TV reported the bombing:
The reported attack in Damascus could mark an important symbolic turning point in the struggle to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
The claim that a bomber was able to carry out such an attack against a high security target speaks volumes about the government's ability to protect its own members and raises questions about the broader capacities of Syria's "security state".
Caution, though, is still needed.
Details of the event are sketchy, contested, and rely upon elements all with their own axes to grind.
Why, according to reliable witnesses, does the building where the bomb apparently went off appear to be undamaged? Why has Syrian government TV refrained from showing its usual lurid images of the casualties?
Conspiracy theorists may have a field-day, but there is one inescapable fact.
The news put out by the Syrian government of a rebel attack against the very heart of the regime cannot be interpreted as anything other than a disaster for President Assad and his supporters.
It sends out a message that if these men cannot be protected by the state security apparatus, then who can? It is in this sense that the attack marks a new phase in the struggle for Syria's future.
What the BBC should really be asking is, if the Damascus bombing did not really occur, why would the Assad regime "put out" such self-defeating news?
What's more, will ABC, CBS and other major news sources adjust their reporting according to historical reality rather than continue embellishing this fictitious event? Will the U.S. government adjust its thinking for the truth rather than the latest lies from Damascus?
I wouldn't hold your breath. This newest, most blatant, version of misinformation flowing out of Syria will likely be incorporated into the whole edifice of historical lies Moscow has been building in this world over the past couple decades to achieve the West's defeat. I will, as usual, remain unheeded as everyone continues to happily cooperate in their own annihilation.
What is odd about this latest lie, however, is that it was delivered so sloppily, as if there was an intent to be caught. Why would that be? I honestly do not know. Maybe Syria and like authoritarian powers are just that arrogant in telling their bald-faced lies since they know how easily the uncritical media and mindless masses fall for such falsehoods.
Along the Syria-Turkey border, the bomb maker was displaying his homemade mortar launcher, crafted from a tube and bits of metal. "Whatever we need to produce, we Google it," said the factory worker turned rebel commander and arms procurer in a border village where goats and insurgents walk along steep mountain paths.
If this all weren't so tragic, preposterous news reports like this would be LMAO material. But, alas, since Western intelligence (an oxymoron if there ever was one) consistently falls for this nonsense, it's more like CMAO ("C" for cry).
So there you have it folks, the media have gotten to the bottom of the mystery of how the Syrian opposition has emerged and become magically so well-armed as to take on the historically brutal 300,000-man Syrian Armed Forces. Per the Global Post reports noted in yesterday's blog, around 40 percent of the Free Syrian Army's military equipment is purchased directly from the Syrian Army, about half their arms are looted from Syrian forces in combat and the remaining ten percent is brought in across the border from Islamic militants that use Google from their mud huts in border villages to search out designs for weapons manufacturing.

While most people have been carefully conditioned to blindly accept the upcoming chain of events as a consequence of randomness and historical misfortune, I maintain as always that what the world is witnessing is the product of the historical machinations of what former President Ronald Reagan dubbed the "Evil Empire":
The strategic objective of Moscow has never changed, i.e., the vilification and destruction of America and the Western powers for the sake of global military, geopolitical domination. It's simply that the tactics in recent decades have been necessarily deceptive.
This, of course, calls into question the whole 'spontaneous' character of the Egyptian Revolution and other associated Arab Spring uprisings and indicates that what the world is witnessing may have a hidden hand, I believe principally from the Kremlin, guiding the historical way.
With regard to Syria's role in Moscow's plan, I'm uncertain what is going on with the 'uprising' there, but some things seriously don't add up.
Consider for instance the arming of the "Free Syrian Army". Did you know that the vast majority of their arms have been supplied by the Syrian Armed Forces (SAF) to-date?
For the release of this prisoner, Ahmed Haseeba, the group received $500. With this money, Fatahallah said they were able to buy ammunition from their main supplier: Syria’s national army, also known as the enemy.
This strange cycle of exchanging prisoners for weapons has been playing out between rebel forces and President Bashar al-Assad’s army since the beginning of the revolution.
Fatahallah estimated that his village purchased 40 percent of their weapons from the regime. Prisoner exchanges have so far contributed almost $80,000 toward weapons purchases, he said. And they obtain an additional 50 percent of their weapons during battle. The remaining 10 percent are donated and smuggled from outside the country, or are purchased from private merchants, mostly from Iraq.
So the Syrian Army is arming the opposition, and somehow the West is being blamed for the insurgency?
Something is just not kosher here.

Back at the base, the men were relaxing after lunch when a loud explosion shocked everyone to their feet. As they feared, the previous night’s purchase of Kalashnikov bullets had been booby-trapped. This time their colleagues were lucky enough to survive the discovery.
The men had learned from prior experience — bullets acquired from the regime are sometimes emptied of their gunpowder and filled with TNT designed to destroy the Kalashnikov and its owner, rather than the enemy.
After several injuries and the loss of two rifles, the men had learned to spot the fakes. To everyone’s relief this had been a controlled explosion, by someone suspicious of the new batch. The damage inflicted was only a blackened hand, some singed hair and a hole in the table.
“These ones here are good bullets,” said battalion leader Asad Ibrahim, showing the red marking on the base of one of the bullets. Holding up another with a slightly darker red off-center mark he said, “These are Bashar’s bullets to explode our guns.”

If Bashar al-Assad's regime is intent on scuttling the 'Free Syrian Army' and opposition forces once and for all, and the Syrian Armed Forces (SAF) are the principal source of military equipment for their opponents, then wouldn't it make sense to crack down internally? What's more, any internal crackdown in the SAF would hopefully opt to eliminate the transfer of arms to the enemy rather than sabotaging a token few bullets. Can you imagine the American military combating the Taliban in Afghanistan by selling them armaments with a few booby-trapped bullets as some sort of ill-fated attempt at stopping opposition? This is obvious BS of the extraordinarily smelly sort intended for gullible Western audiences IMHO.
The dominant narrative of modern Middle East history emphasizes the depredations visited upon the region by European colonization and accepts as a truism that the former colonial powers prioritized the protection of their material interests—in oil, above all—above the dignity and self-determination of the region’s inhabitants. Thus did botched decolonization result in endless instability. The most intractable of the regional conflicts to which this gave rise, that between the Arabs and Israelis, is attributed in this narrative to Israel’s unwillingness to accede to Palestinian national aspirations. Thus did the region become a breeding ground for radicalism, intensified by Cold War rivalry between the superpowers, who replaced the European colonizers as the region’s meddling overlords. Then came Mikhail Gorbachev—a Westernizing reformer. At last, the Cold War was over. A new world order was at hand.
What if this conventional wisdom is nonsense? Russian exile Pavel Stroilov argues just this in his forthcoming book, Behind the Desert Storm. “Not a word of it is true,” he writes. “It was the Soviet Empire—not the British Empire—that was responsible for the instability in the Middle East.”
Stroilov, a historian now living in London, fled Russia in 2003 after stealing 50,000 top-secret Kremlin documents from the Gorbachev Foundation archives, where he was working as a researcher. He was given access to the archive in 1999, but Gorbachev refused him permission to copy its most significant documents. Having observed the network administrator entering the password into the system, Stroilov reproduced the archive and sent it to secure locations around the world.

Stroilov’s book about these documents, many only now translated into English, challenges the conventional wisdom that Western colonialists are to blame for the chaos in the region. All of its major conflicts, he argues, were caused by Soviet expansionism. Terrorism and the rabid anti-Israeli animus of the Arab world were Soviet inspirations....The documents clearly suggest that many contemporary conflicts in the Middle East were fomented by the Soviet empire, particularly in the final years before its break-up. And the events he describes have had a significant impact upon the current state of the region—from the conflict in Iraq to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, to the development of a de facto alliance between the European Union and the Arab states.

In a National Review article, (Ion) Pacepa (the highest-ranking defector from the Soviet Bloc) recalls a conversation he had with KGB chairman Yuri Andropov, who envisioned fomenting “a Nazi-style hatred for the Jews throughout the Islamic world. … We had only to keep repeating our themes—that the United States and Israel were ‘fascist, imperial-Zionist countries’ bankrolled by rich Jews.”
In the mid-1970s, Pacepa recalls, the KGB ordered its Eastern European sister agencies to scour the Middle East for trusted agents, train them in disinformation and terrorism, and export a “rabid, demented hatred for American Zionism.” They showered the region with an Arabic translation of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and KGB-fabricated documents alleging that Israel and the United States were dedicated to converting the Islamic world into a Jewish colony.
Following the defeat of the Egyptians in the Six Day War, the Soviets came to a second realization: A conventional military confrontation with Israel, and by extension the West, carried too great a risk of escalating into nuclear war. A change of tactics was required.
I believe that change in tactics included the determination that a global nuclear war need be fought to achieve final victory, something spelled out in Joseph Douglass' classic 1979 text, Soviet Strategy For Nuclear War (Hoover international studies). Douglass noted how classified Soviet military literature emphasized the importance of "surprise" over and over again as the key to victory over the West in a conflict that involves the rapid delivery of weapons of mass destruction by missiles.
In thinking 'The Unthinkable', Moscow strategists would have considered the seeming inevitability of a full-scale East-West conflict and determined it would likely emanate from the Middle East and the Arab-Israeli conflict in particularly. Hence, an optimal strategy was devised to wage an era of 'false peace' to delude the West into an effectively suicidal false sense of security such that our nuclear guard be minimized as much as possible before full-scale conflict. Meanwhile, the Mideast cauldron has been manipulated in such a way that when war comes, Israeli aggressiveness ("Zionism") and Western "Imperialism" in the region will be blamed for causing the global holocaust of mass destruction in the form of a nuclear third world war that just happens to catch the West totally by surprise.
What's incredibly sad and tragic, IMHO, is that in 20+ years seemingly no one (save maybe Jeff Nyquist) has been willing to see history the way I have and do something to contravene the catastrophic fate everyone is wittingly and/or unwittingly making. Indeed, I think it's as I've long-since assessed: ours is a very, very sick species that prefers comforting lies to the hard truth at almost every turn even though this is collectively suicidal in the long-run.
A ceremony took place Monday at Ground Zero in New York City to mark the hoisting of the final beam to the top of 4 World Trade Center, the first of the main towers to be rebuilt in the wake of 9/11:

With BeBe Winans singing "God Bless America," workers raised their hardhats in tribute as the mammoth beam rose slowly into the Manhattan sky, swaying from a steel rope hoisted by a crane.
A U.S. flag attached to the bottom of the beam fluttered above several hundred spectators at the topping-off ceremony.
This topping-off ceremony comes two weeks after a visit to Ground Zero by President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama during which the American leader symbolically inscribing one of the steel beams that will be part of One World Trade Center ("Freedom Tower") - "We remember, we rebuild, we come back stronger!" followed by his signature:
As noted in my June 14th blog, President Obama's inscription eerily buttresses the case made by Jonathan Cahn in his book, The Harbinger, that America is fulfilling a prophecy from the Book of Isaiah that forewarned the destruction of ancient Israel:

For the majority of folk who come across Jonathan Cahn's work, one major point of doubt is the notion that the U.S.could be suddenly vanquished like ancient Israel, thus upsetting Americans' all-too lofty pride. After all, the U.S. now stands supreme on the world's geopolitical stage and has by far the most modern and powerful military. So how could we ever be taken down?
I think, in this regard, it is important to note what world power brought down ancient Israel in fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy in the 8th century BC. Ancient Israel fell victim to the Assyrians, i.e., what is Syria in the modern world.
Is this somehow prescient given, as noted in my prior blog, that Syria might soon be at war with Israel, America and NATO?
I believe so.

Keep in mind the prophetic vision I experienced in 1991 connected to the Bible's Book Of Revelation. It began with seeing a special report of a chemical SCUD missile attack on Haifa, Israel. It seems rather telling that at the current juncture the nation most likely to unleash such an attack is Syria. Indeed, there is grave concern in Israel about the threat posed by Syria's chemical weaponry:

Of course, even if Syria were to lash out at Israel with chemical SCUDs, few see how this could lead to the destruction of America. Nevertheless, this is what this blog has been seeking to spell out for years, i.e., that the "Old Enemy", i.e., Russia, China and the totalitarian states of the East, are setting the stage to defeat Israel, America and the Western powers in a surprise third world war. I believe Syria is a key part of this strategy.
