Man's Seasonal Insanity

In August of last year I wrote an important blog examining the seasonality of man's manic-depressive psychotic disorder which I've dubbed the "Global Bipolar Disorder".  I've discovered that there is a distinct circannual pattern to swings in mass mood such that bouts of collective panic and depression tend to strike in the autumn, with full-scale "crashes" typically occurring during a two-week period starting around Tishrei 10 (Yom Kippur) and climaxing into Tishrei 25-28 on the lunar-based Hebrew calendar.

The most profound examples of this in the financial realm were the 1929 and 1987 stock market crashes:

While 1929 and 1987 are clear examples of how collective panics can strike financial markets in the Fall after Yom Kippur, it's also possible that waves of mass fear and anxiety come in the form of autumn geopolitical crises.  Two of the most profound examples of this, which also occurred in the two-week period between Yom Kippur and the end of Tishrei on the Hebrew calendar, were the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and 1973 Yom Kippur Arab-Israeli War: the closest times the world came to global nuclear war.

Yom Kippur took place on October 8th, 1962.  On October 7th that year, Cuban President Osvaldo Dortic√≥s announced to the UN General Assembly: "If ... we are attacked, we will defend ourselves. I repeat, we have sufficient means with which to defend ourselves; we have indeed our inevitable weapons, the weapons, which we would have preferred not to acquire, and which we do not wish to employ." Shortly thereafter, a U.S. reconnaissance flight over Cuba revealed the presence of Soviet medium range ballistic missiles. From there a crisis quickly developed as President Kennedy confronted Moscow over the presence of nuclear missiles in Cuba and then blockaded the island.  The crisis continued to deepen and on October 25th, which was the 27th of Tishrei on the Hebrew calendar, the DEFCON nuclear alert status was raised to "2" for the first time in history as the world was at the brink of nuclear war.  An agreement was reached between the leaders of America and Russia soon thereafter and world war three was averted.

In 1973, Yom Kippur occurred on October 6th.  On that day, a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack against Israel.  The Arab forces made significant gains against the Jewish state but soon fell into retreat and by October 24th, the 28th of Tishrei on the Hebrew calendar, the IDF had encircled Egypt's Third Army and the city of Suez. Consequently, a nuclear confrontation developed between the U.S. and Soviet Union as America raised its DEFCON nuclear alert status to "3", the second closest the world ever came to nuclear war.  Soon thereafter the crisis was resolved.

Thus, there is a distinct historical pattern to man's manic-depressive insanity that involves mass panics during the Fall and between Yom Kippur and the end of the month of Tishrei on the Hebrew calendar.  The latter period saw both the historic 1929 and 1987 stock market crashes as well as the two geopolitical crises that brought the world closest to a nuclear third world war: the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and the 1973 Arab-Israeli War.

Wednesday, September 26th, Yom Kippur will occur this year around.  Will the historical pattern prove relevant in 2012?  Let's hope and pray not, but there's certainly enough trouble in the Middle East nowadays to be on guard. It won't take much for the world to share the apocalyptic vision I suffered in 1991 that began by seeing a special report of a chemical SCUD missile attack on Israel. [NOTE: Tishrei 25-28, the seasonal period of most acute panic in 1929, 1962, 1973 and 1987, will occur from October 11th to 14th this year.]

Was Jesus Married?

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A historian of early Christianity at Harvard Divinity School has identified a scrap of papyrus that she says was written in Coptic in the fourth century and contains a phrase never seen in any piece of Scripture: “Jesus said to them, ‘My wife ...’ ”
The faded papyrus fragment is smaller than a business card, with eight lines on one side, in black ink legible under a magnifying glass. Just below the line about Jesus having a wife, the papyrus includes a second provocative clause that purportedly says, “she will be able to be my disciple.”
From the Wikipedia entry about Simcha Jacobovici's controversial documentary, "The Lost Tomb of Jesus":
Analysis of mitochondrial DNA performed by Lakehead University on the remains found in the ossuary marked "Jesus son of Joseph" and the one marked "Mariamne" or "Mary" (who some claim to be Mary Magdalene) found that the two occupants were not blood relations on their mothers' side. Based on these tests, the makers of the documentary suggest that "Jesus" and "Mariamne" were probably married "because otherwise they would not have been buried together in a family tomb..."

8/11/15 UPDATE: Elul 29 = September 13th in 2015

9/22/14 UPDATE: Jonathan Cahn, The Coming Shemitah Year & God's Judgment

Just an FYI.

As noted in my April blog, "Jonathan Cahn: The Harbinger", there is an intriguing phenomenon surrounding the date of Elul 29 on the Jewish calendar.  As Rabbi Cahn discovered and spelled out in his book, The Harbinger, on this last day on the Jewish calendar in the last two Sabbatical Years, 2001 and 2008 (Sabbatical Years occur every seven years under Jewish tradition), two of the three largest point drops in the DJIA in stock market history occurred:

The plunge of just over 7 percent or nearly 700 points on 9/17/01, or 29 Elul 5761 on the Hebrew calendar, occurred in response to the 9/11 attacks.  The drop of 777.7 points or 7 percent on 9/29/08, or 29 Elul 5768 on the Hebrew calendar, took place in reaction to the U.S. Congress failing to approve the first vote for a Wall Street bailout during the financial crisis that year.

As pointed out in the section of my April blog dubbed, "The Mystery Of The Shmita & The Septennial Sabbatical Cycle", it's an incredible coincidence that two of the three largest point drops in the Dow struck on the last day of the seven-year Jewish Sabbatical cycle.  In fact, statistically the odds of this occurring are more than a million to one.

So maybe God's trying to make a point with us.  What point could that be?

Consider this.  9/11 involved massive strikes against the greatest symbols of American "Capitalism and Imperialism", i.e., the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon.  These attacks against the U.S. were carried out by Islamic extremists under the guidance of Communist forces. Islam purportedly represents "submission to God's will" and Communism purportedly signifies "sharing wealth equally".  In this context, one might well argue that 9/11 was a warning from God to America of the need to submit to God's will to share our wealth.

Needless to say, America, and Wall Street in particularly, failed to learn any lesson from 9/11.

Thus, unrestrained greed ran amok for another cycle and what emerged was a sub-prime mortgage bubble that epitomized financial corruption throughout our society.  Eventually the bubble burst, however, and when Wall Street didn't get the bailout it wanted from Main Street on 9/29/08, the second Elul 29 crash struck.  So too did a prolonged economic collapse as American Capitalism seemed to fail.

Yet, just as the 'Harbinger' prophecy from Isaiah 9:10 foretells, God's people still fail to get the divine message:

“The bricks have fallen down,
but we will rebuild with dressed stone;
the fig trees have been felled,
but we will replace them with cedars.”

As President Obama puts it:

The truth is that rebuilding in contravention to God's will is ultimately futile.

I think what's key here is what Jews are called upon to do on the last day of the Sabbatical Year, Elul 29th:
When the Shmita (Sabbatical) year ends, personal debts which are due during that year are considered nullified and forgiven. The Book of Leviticus promises bountiful harvests to those who observe the shmita and makes observance a test of religious faith. [Wiki]
Are the "creditors" of this world forgiving debts as their debts were forgiven by Christ?

I think not.

Now the question is, how is God the Author of this story in which we dwell going to respond to such disobedience?

I can't say for sure, but it seems I've long been pointing out a likely source of a future upset.  If Russia is indeed misleading the West and utilizing the Islamic world's hatred and anger toward us for the purpose of unleashing a surprise third world war, then this would clearly constitute a most profound punishment for our nation's sins.

Finally, this brings us to Elul 29 of this year.  While I doubt God has anything planned for the date this year, since this is not a Sabbatical Year (the next year ends in September of 2015 when I expect the cycle to reach its low), what I can say is that the stock market appears to be ending a diagonal triangle pattern that in the context of the Elliott Wave Principle indicates an extraordinarily sharp reversal may be imminent.  That something would occur in the wake of Ben Bernanke's offer to print more money galore seems symbolic in that the recent run-up on Wall Street in response is the epitome of misplaced faith in the false god of Mammon rather than the true God of Israel.  Meanwhile, the new moon approaches just as Israel has come to believe it has no other option but to strike Iran's nuclear weapons program. In fact the new moon occurs on Elul 29, which is September 16th on a Gregorian calendar.
